Mix CDs as Gifts to Wedding Guests

CD in Jewel CaseA question we often get at Moss Media Lab from brides to be is, “Can I get copies of a mix CD to give to my wedding guests?” Unfortunately we have to tell them no. Operating a reputable duplication firm means respect copyright laws and so we must ask customers to have a signed Rights Release Form from the all the artists and/or distributors of all the music on the mix CD before copies could be made. Obviously this isn’t practical and certainly not a bride’s to do list amidst, flowers, dress alteration and center pieces for the banquette. A single backup copy of a music CD or video DVD is the most you can expect to get from any professional duplication company and even that’s iffy. People have been prosecuted for copyright violations and if a duplication company crosses the copyright line they’re in serious trouble. Its one thing to make a mix CD it’s another thing entirely to mass produce copies of a mix CD without the proper paperwork. So forget about the mix CD as a gift for your wedding guests unless you want to spend your honeymoon looking back to see if the copyright police are on hot your tail.
